Southeast Texas Senior Care Providers Task Force
We
are a group of both not-for-profit and for-profit long term care providers who
came together after Hurricanes Rita and Katrina as a support group to try to
facilitate our emergency disaster plans that are required by
DADS. We also wanted to have our voices heard and our concerns addressed in
the planning of state and local emergency management agencies.
Membership in the group is open to all who wish to participate and there are no dues. The Task Force has no official standing other than as an advocacy group encouraging long term care providers to plan effectively for disasters. It also has served as a communication link and advocate for long term care with the civil emergency management offices, DADS, and others. The Task Force is currently co-chaired by Ann Meador, Methodist Retirement Communities, and Malcolm Slatko, Seven Acres Jewish Senior Care Services.

Over the months since August, 2005, the Task Force has clarified with civil emergency officials some Frequently Asked Questions that senior care providers have about hurricane evacuations. It has posted this information, along with other useful information and maps, on this website. It has held workshops on writing emergency plans for facilities which featured emergency management officials and officials from DADS to help facilities prepare for disasters. It has taken the lead in obtaining priority telephone cards that enable its members to make important calls during emergencies. It has also developed and found the funding to provide every long term care resident in Harris and Matagorda County with a senior safety vest to aid in their evacuation.
New information and notices of meetings of the Task Force and other important organizations will be posted to this page and email notification will be sent to all those on the Task Force membership list.
