Senior Safety Vests

saftey vest The Senior Safety Vests shown in this photo were developed by the SE TX Senior Care Providers Task Force for use by nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and other fixed facilities during hurricane evacuations.  The Task Force developed these vests as a way to make sure that the medical records, list of prescriptions, and other vital information would always be available to any medical personnel who might encounter a frail elderly person from a facility during an evacuation.

We suggest that, before a storm approaches, your facility prepare medical information, Rx lists, doctor and family contact phone numbers, a photograph of the resident, and any other information that you feel might be useful to put in the zipper pocket. The pocket is water-resistant.  The vest is soft and comfortable to wear. They are brightly colored and have a “glow” strip to help you identify your residents in a crowd or at night.

If you have to evacuate your facility before a storm or after a storm passes by, you can put the vests on each resident. If they should become separated from their normal caregivers during the evacuation process, they would at least have the most vital information about their condition on their person for another caregiver to use. This should be of great help to EMT’s and other emergency caregivers who might need to assist your resident.
